Our verdict

Emma gives you 150 nights to change your mind — thirty more than Newentor or Koala, fifty more than Ecosa — and it needs that window, because medium-soft is the only firmness Emma builds. What you get inside it is a proper hybrid: seven zones of pocket springs wrapped in a foam frame that keeps the edge usable, under four foam layers with cooling designed into each one. The catch is the fine print. A queen is $1,359 — $360 above Koala and $119 above Ecosa — free delivery and returns only reach select metro addresses, and the delivery fee is not refunded if the mattress goes back.

Best for side sleepers who want a soft-leaning hybrid, for anyone who sits on the edge of the bed, and for buyers who want the longest possible trial.

Skip it if you want a firm mattress, if you live outside a metro delivery zone, or if a published foam certification matters to you.

Luxe ViscoCool

The Emma Luxe ViscoCool is a hybrid: seven zones of individually pocketed springs, encased in foam, under four foam layers. The springs are ringed by a foam frame, which is why the edge holds when you sit on it — a perimeter specification many makers leave out entirely.

Cooling is the model’s stated purpose rather than a side effect, and there is material behind it: ThermoSync foam is loaded with graphite, which conducts heat away from the surface; the PolarLuxe cover is 28% polyethylene, a cool-to-touch fibre; and a spring core moves more air than a solid foam block. Emma also gives a 150-night trial, and takes Afterpay and Zip at 0%.

Two things count against it. Medium-soft is the only firmness Emma makes, in any model, so there is nothing firmer to switch to if it turns out too soft. And the free delivery and returns reach select metro addresses only — outer and regional areas pay a fee, and that fee is not refunded if the mattress goes back.

Cooling is the point of this model rather than a side effect. Graphite-loaded ThermoSync foam conducts heat away from the surface, the cover is 28% polyethylene, which feels cool to touch, and the pocket spring core leaves room for air to move.

Ordered the new viscocool model mattress on Thursday and it was fast delivery arriving next day! (Melbourne Metro) Easy to set up and not as heavy as other mattress in a box brands. I let it air and expand for the day and had my first sleep on it that night. It was so comfortable from day 1 and I had the best sleep ever.

My new mattress is very comfortable & has given me relief from the pressure points from my previous mattress. I no longer wake up with pins & needles/numbing in my hips or shoulders. I also don't wake up with a backache in the mornings. I have found that I toss & turn much less also so have a better quality of sleep.

Brilliant mattress. I could not be happier. I was a bit skeptical at first but having slept on the mattress now for over 6 months I am completely satisfied. The support, comfort and quality of materials are comparable to mattresses twice the price. I know...I had one.

Bought 3 mattresses for different beds which were delivered within a couple of days, rolled and securely wrapped in thick plastic. Once unpacked they inflated and used that night. Have found them very comfortable to sleep on so far, no complaints.

Good quality for price range

Arrive quickly, but admin processes all over the place I thought I was about to receive 2 mattress. Not as firm as I had anticipated, but still good. Has retained its shape well. The soft sides have caught me out a couple of times, collapsing under me and dumping me on the floor.

Not bad

I was skeptical when I saw the mattress unfold from the box, as the edges did not seem to be straight or solid. The mattress is surprisingly comfortable and supportive. We have slept well since receiving this mattress. I do wonder about how long it will last; time will tell.

Great back support and excellent motion isolation, but slightly softer than preferred

We’ve recently switched to this mattress after using a much firmer one, and overall, it’s been a positive change. I wake up with my back feeling great and pain-free, which has been a huge plus. One of the standout features is the motion isolation—when my partner moves or gets up, I barely notice, which makes for an uninterrupted night’s sleep. The only downside is that it’s a bit softer than we usually prefer, but it’s still comfortable and supportive.

Is delivery actually free?

Free to select metro addresses, in one to three working days. Outer and regional addresses pay a fee, and that fee is not refunded if you return the mattress inside the trial.

How soon can I sleep on it?

Emma asks you to let it rest for about 24 hours after unboxing so it can fully regain its shape.
